Emergency Preparation Suggestions
Sister Peg Bryan

Don't focus solely on a year's supply of food before working on the following:

1. 72 Hour kit contents

2. Water

3. Get starter kit at cannery so you can start using the long term storage in your short term meals.

4. 1st 7 day period. Have a FHE on food storage to see each person's favorite meals.

5. Prepare 2 weeks of meals with shopping list of ingredients for the family. Alternate them to make meals for a month.

6. Prepare 2 or 3 more weeks of meals and you won't have to alternate them to have different meals for an entire month.

7. Do same thing for the next 12 months acquiring all ingredients for the family for the full 3 months.

8. If you will look at the 1st presidency suggestions in the newest pamphlet, All is Safely Gathered In, they list a 3 month supply 1st, then drinking water, then financial reserve and last the one-year supply.

Suggestions for 72 Hour Kit/bag for your family:
Battery Radio (Need spare batteries, best stored separately)
Flashlight with spare batteries or use windup generating flashlight.
Blanket (or extra blankets stored in trunk of the car)
Emergency water supply (in containers, bottles) plus water purification tablets
Matches, Knife, Can opener, Toilet Paper/Paper Towels/Kleenex, Short term food.
Other ideas include tent, plastic tarp/ground cover, hatchet, and lantern

Week Supply of Food
What does your family like to eat which is easy to fix even if the power is off and providing you have gas oven, gas log fireplace, or camp fire
Cans and boxes of food that can be stored
Water (1 gallon per person per day)

One Month Supply
